Vaasthu Sastra - Kitchen
Kitchen is the source of energy to the whole family and as well to the whole of the house.
The Kitchen may be located in the house except the Easanya Moolai and Nyruthi Moolai (North East and South West Corners).
But the most preferred place is the Aagneya Moolai - also called the Agni Moolai, which is the South East Corner.
If the South East Corner is not technically feasible, then the Kitchen may be provided in the North West Corner called Vaayaviya or Vaayu Moolai.
The standing posture of the cooking person in the Kitchen should be facing either the East or the North Direction.
The cooking table or cooking slab, normally accommodates a cooking stove or ovan and a water sink for hand and vessel washing.
If the cooking slab runs in the North to South Direction, the Water Sink should be on the north end of the cooking slab and the stove or ovan should be on the middle or south end of the cooking slab.
In this case the standing posture of the cooking person will be towards the East direction.
If the cooking slab runs in the East to West Direction, the Water Sink should be on the East end of the slab and the stove or ovan should be in the middle or the west end of the slab.
In this case the standing posture of the cooking person will be towards the North direction.
If a shelf is provided to keep utensils, it should be provided in the south or west ends of the cooking slab.
If a shelf is provided to keep cookware, groceries etc, it should be on the back side of the cooking person. In other words, the shelf should be on the South Side or West Side Wall of the Kitchen.
If the Kitchen is enough wide and if a Pooja Shelf is separately provided, it should also be provided alongside the kitchen shelf.
Where the available space is limited and a Pooja place is provided within the Shelf, the slab in the shelf or cupboard above chest or atleast hip level may be used for the purpose.
If there is enough space in the Kitchen and if an L shaped cooking slab is provided, additional load like shelf for utensils can be provided on the south side or west side extension of the cooking slab
