National carrier Air India seems to have made last-minute changes to fly a bigger plane in order to accommodate the family of then civil aviation minister Praful Patel in the business class of a Bangalore-Maldives fight.

In a reply to an RTI query filed by activist Subhash Agarwal, it was revealed by Air India that with seven business class seats already booked on a 2010 IC-965 flight, the airlines decided to switch to a bigger aircraft so that the seven members of Patel's daughter's family could fly business class.

Air India usually flies a smaller Airbus A 319 on the route. The instruction to switch to a bigger aircraft was sent from the airlines' Mumbai headquarters to the Bangalore station.

The list of passengers disclosed by Air India includes the names of Praful Patel's daughter Avni, her husband Prashant Deshpande, Congress leader R V Deshpande, Radha Deshpande, Prasad Deshpande, Meghna Deshpande and Master Dhruv.
